The Woman Who Wears Them

One imagines her arriving slightly late to lunch on a warm afternoon.

A linen dress. Sunlit skin. A woven handbag casually resting beside her chair.

The earrings catch the light before she says a word.

Compliments arrive before introductions.

And yet they never feel flashy.

They possess that rare quality found in the finest vintage pieces: confidence without effort.

The sort of jewel that makes its wearer appear as though she simply happened to own something extraordinary.

There are vintage earrings that accessorise an outfit.

And then there are vintage earrings that become the reason for the outfit.

These extraordinary Frank Usher earrings embody everything that made British costume jewellery of the 1980s so unforgettable - theatrical scale, impeccable craftsmanship, unapologetic glamour, and a sense of occasion woven into every curve.

At first glance, the design appears almost architectural. A beautifully sculpted heart-shaped frame is adorned with vibrant turquoise cabochons, crowned by elegant shell-inspired motifs and finished with delicate scrollwork reminiscent of antique European ironwork and ornamental gates. The result is both romantic and regal - a design that feels equally at home at a summer villa on the Amalfi Coast as it does at a candlelit dinner in London.

Yet despite their impressive presence, these earrings are remarkably comfortable to wear. The thoughtfully engineered clip-on mechanism sits securely and gently on the ear, allowing the earrings to move beautifully without feeling cumbersome.

What makes this pair truly remarkable, however, is its story.

Created by Frank Usher over four decades ago and preserved untouched ever since, these earrings remain exactly as they left the manufacturer. In fact, traces of the original manufacturing markings from the era remain visible on the reverse - tiny details that quietly affirm their authenticity and history. To hold them is to hold a surviving fragment of the late twentieth century, preserved almost impossibly well after nearly half a century.

Not merely vintage.

A time capsule.

Styling Notes

These earrings have the remarkable ability to transform even the simplest wardrobe.

For daytime

  • Crisp white shirt and tailored trousers
  • Linen dress in ivory, navy, camel, or terracotta
  • Simple cashmere knit and denim
  • Summer resort wear and holiday wardrobes

For evening

  • Black silk dress
  • Turquoise, cobalt, emerald, or ivory ensembles
  • Off-the-shoulder gowns
  • Elegant destination weddings and cocktail events

Because the turquoise cabochons provide all the colour, very little additional jewellery is required. Allow them to remain the focal point.

About Frank Usher

For decades, Frank Usher was synonymous with glamorous British occasion dressing. The house became celebrated for creating elegant pieces worn by women attending society events, cocktail parties, weddings, cruises, and special occasions throughout Britain and beyond.

Their jewellery reflects that same philosophy -beautifully made, dramatic without excess, and designed to make a woman feel instantly elevated.

These earrings are a wonderful example of that legacy.

Provenance

These earrings come from a remarkable discovery - deadstock from a historic London jewellery warehouse that closed its doors in the late 1980s. Decades later, the warehouse was rediscovered and reopened, revealing untouched vintage inventory preserved exactly as it was when the business ceased operations.

Today, this archive supplies rare pieces to film and production houses such as Bridgerton, Joan, and other major costume productions, alongside a select circle of vintage dealers.

To encounter such pieces in unworn condition after more than four decades is exceptionally rare.
