Some earrings finish an outfit. These determine the evening.
An elaborate pair of Frank Usher clip-on earrings in silver tone, bringing together the ornament of baroque design and the theatrical confidence of vintage occasion jewellery.
Each begins with a sculpted floral roundel: a clear rhinestone encircled by raised, fluted petals and an intricate openwork border. Suspended beneath, an elongated pendant unfolds into mirrored scrolls, curling flourishes and delicate bead-like detailing. Rhinestones punctuate the design, drawing the eye through a central flower motif towards a small, pointed terminal.
Their beauty lies as much in the spaces between the metalwork as in the ornament itself. The pierced construction gives the generous silhouette an airy, lace-like appearance, while the articulated drops introduce movement. Turn your head, and the stones catch the light in succession.
The Frank Usher connection
Rooted in post-war London, Frank Usher built its reputation on bringing the elaborate detail and imagination of high fashion to ready-to-wear. Evening dressing, embellishment and a sense of occasion became central to the label’s identity—a sensibility beautifully echoed in these earrings. They belong to a tradition of dressing in which jewellery was integral to the entrance.
From the London warehouse
Sourced from the London warehouse deadstock collection, these earrings carry the particular appeal of vintage stock that remained unsold and unworn. According to the collection’s provenance, the warehouse closed in the late 1980s, leaving its inventory stored for decades before its rediscovery.
That history adds something a contemporary reproduction cannot: a direct connection to the stock, taste and occasion dressing of an earlier era. Their story has spent years in storage; their life in a wardrobe is still ahead.
How we would wear them
For evening, black velvet or ivory silk provides a beautiful setting for the intricate silver-tone work. Choose an open neckline, sweep the hair behind the ears and leave the neck bare - the earrings provide all the ornament required.
For a more unexpected approach, wear them with a crisp white shirt, collar open, and sharply tailored trousers. The simplicity makes every scroll and glint more noticeable.
They would also sit beautifully beside a sleek sari with a restrained border, particularly in pearl grey, midnight blue or deep aubergine. Keep other jewellery considered: one substantial ring, perhaps, and room for the earrings to move.
