The Aquamarine Palais Ring
An extraordinary 1980s silver-plated statement ring centred around a luminous aquamarine glass crystal in the most ethereal shade of crystalline blue - reminiscent of sunlight falling upon the waters of the French Riviera. The emerald-cut stone catches light beautifully, glowing with an almost liquid translucence that gives the ring its unmistakable old-world glamour.
Surrounding the central crystal is an intricate arrangement of delicate paste work, meticulously set across layered silver-plated bands that curve around the finger like architectural ribbons. Each tiny rhinestone has been individually placed to create a curtain of sparkle around the aquamarine centre - the kind of craftsmanship so characteristic of vintage jewellery from an era when even costume jewellery was made with remarkable care, weight, and artistry.
One of the loveliest surviving details is its original 1980s tag still attached to the ring - a rare little time capsule from the decade it was first presented to the world. Pieces retaining their original tags carry a certain untouched romance to them, almost as though they have been quietly waiting decades for the right collector to discover them.
Designed for a smaller ring size, the ring sits beautifully snug at approximately 1.7 cm, making it especially elegant on slender fingers. Despite its statement silhouette, the structure feels wonderfully balanced and refined when worn.
There is something distinctly cinematic about this piece - one can imagine it worn by a woman stepping out onto the terrace of a grand Mediterranean hotel in the 1980s, dressed in silk, diamonds catching candlelight, a chilled coupe glass resting in her hand. It belongs to that world of unapologetic glamour - where jewellery was worn not timidly, but beautifully and with intention.
Style it with crisp white tailoring, icy blue silks, evening blacks, soft cashmere, or even denim and an oversized men’s shirt for contrast. It layers beautifully with silver jewellery but is equally striking worn entirely on its own as the centrepiece of the hand.
A beautiful reminder of a time when jewellery houses paid attention to the smallest details - from the precise stone setting to the graceful architecture of the band itself. A rare and remarkably preserved 1980s treasure for the collector who appreciates vintage craftsmanship and timeless glamour.
