A small creature with a magnificent presence. This beautifully substantial 1980s housefly brooch transforms nature into something gloriously extravagant: white paste, rich red Swarovski crystals and warm gold, brought together in an intricately detailed jewel.
Its outspread wings shimmer with closely set white paste, framed by sculpted gold edges and delicate raised beadwork. Three rows of red baguette-cut crystals define the upper body, while further red stones, set on the diagonal, punctuate the rounded abdomen. Articulated-looking legs and finely moulded details give the silhouette depth and character. There is something captivating about the contrast: a familiar little insect, dressed with the grandeur of a precious jewel.
Solid and exceptionally well made, it has the sculptural presence and considered finish associated with fine jewellery. At 7 cm wide, it makes a statement without needing a single companion.
Wear it on the lapel of a sharply tailored jacket, against black velvet, or at the shoulder of a simple evening dress. Its vertical pin fitting also allows it to be styled as a pendant - particularly striking suspended from a chain or nestled against pearls. Secure it to a ribbon in your hair, pin it to a hat, or wear it as a jewelled accent on a fabric bag.
A piece for the collector who finds pleasure in the unexpected - and knows that one extraordinary detail can make the entire outfit.
