Imagine an ivory silk blouse, the collar casually open, and this glorious sweep of gold at your neckline. Before the jacket, before the lipstick, the outfit already feels complete.
Richly sculpted and beautifully expressive, this vintage necklace captures the indulgence of 1980s dressing: confident gold, generous detail and a little theatrical flourish, all brought together with a wonderfully elegant sense of balance.
At its heart, two sweeping golden leaves curve towards a circular, jewel-like centrepiece. Each leaf is deeply ridged, with a raised central vein and softly rippling edges. The sculpted surfaces catch the light in alternating ribbons of brightness and shadow, giving the design an almost flowing quality. There is something of a golden laurel about it - a botanical motif given the presence of a couture accessory.
Between the leaves sits a domed roundel scattered with faceted stones in rich pink, ruby red, emerald green, soft violet and sparkling clear tones. Each is individually framed in a golden setting, with tiny bead-like details nestled between them. The effect is deliciously ornate: a miniature mosaic of colour, bright enough to draw the eye and intricate enough to invite a closer look.
A broad, closely interlocking chain continues the richness around the neckline. Its smooth, angled links create a repeated pattern reminiscent of overlapping leaves, echoing the centrepiece in a quieter rhythm. Even the fastening keeps the silhouette neat, allowing the decorative front to take centre stage.
This is jewellery with that unmistakable 1980s fashion confidence. Think beautifully cut jackets, silk blouses, polished dressing tables and the pleasure of choosing one magnificent accessory before stepping out.
For an evening, wear it against black velvet or a simple open neckline and let the golden leaves frame your décolletage. With emerald silk or deep burgundy, the coloured stones become especially captivating, picking up the richness of the fabric. For a wedding, an anniversary dinner or a night at the opera, pair it with understated earrings and swept-back hair; there is more than enough detail here to carry the look.
It is equally compelling in daylight. Tuck it beneath the open collar of a crisp white shirt, with tailored trousers and rolled sleeves, for a little boardroom glamour. Set it against a fine chocolate or black roll-neck, add a camel coat, and an everyday winter outfit acquires extraordinary polish. With a plain T-shirt, favourite jeans and a well-cut blazer, it brings that enviable feeling of someone who dresses entirely for her own pleasure.
The colours make it wonderfully easy to build an outfit around, too. A pink lip, a green silk scarf, a burgundy bag - one small echo of the centre stones is all it takes.
Its provenance adds another layer of fascination. This necklace comes from our London warehouse collection, an archive preserved for decades after the original business closed in the late 1980s. Thousands of unworn pieces remained tucked away until a London jeweller rediscovered the stock during the pandemic, opening the collection to selected vintage dealers and production houses in the years that followed. The same warehouse has supplied jewellery to productions including Bridgerton, Wuthering Heights and Joan: a remarkable source of period glamour, now finding its way into personal collections.
There is a particular pleasure in wearing something with this much character. You notice the leaves in the mirror, the little flashes of colour as you turn, the way a familiar blouse suddenly feels rather special.
Choose it for a grand evening. Reach for it again on an ordinary morning. Beautiful jewellery deserves both.
